LYDDEN TRACKDAY INFORMATION
CIRCUIT: Lydden Hill is the most famous home of rallycross and would not initially seem like a great track day venue. However, the small circuit packs a big punch with a good mixture of turns and extensive gradient changes.
The Lydden Hill circuit has 4 right hand bends and 2 left hand bends, incorporating the famous ‘hill’. Lydden has a feel of Brands Hatch Indy, especially the hairpin that feels very much like Druids. Pilgrims corner also reminds of Gerards at Mallory Park.
Track day drivers will enjoy the tight twists and trying to get the most time out of this small, technical circuit. A good lap time here is difficult to achieve, as time is very easily lost.
HISTORY: In 1965 Bill Chesson designed and built the track on the site of his original scrambling course. In 1967 the hairpin was added, bringing Lydden Hill to its current layout of 1 mile. Unfortunately, Lydden is restricted to 52 days use per year, which means that there are not as many track days here as we would like.
SUMMARY: Track days at Lydden Hill are few and far between, so go when you can. There isn’t much run off, but this adds to the precision needed for a good lap time.
